FC Bayern München may be 3-1 to the good in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Arsenal FC but Thomas Müller, scorer of the Bundesliga leaders' second goal, is taking nothing for granted. Though the Germany forward praised Jupp Heynckes' side for the manner in which they responded to the Gunners' second-half goal, he remains wary – a sentiment echoed by centre-back Dante.
Thomas Müller, Bayern forward
We were able to capitalise on our first real chance and then we were well in command, though they managed to shake us a little at 2-1. Manuel [Neuer] did well to parry once and then at 3-1 it was over. We are in good shape, as you've been able to see in recent weeks, and we confirmed that today, so [the win] was not a huge surprise for me – but you still have to go out and do it.
In the Bundesliga, you could say we lack concentration sometimes, but when it is the round of 16 in the Champions League, everyone is really fired up and focused. We know how important these games are, as you don't have much time to make up for mistakes. That's why it goes without saying that you are at 100%. We have not won anything by just winning a first leg in the round of 16. It was 2-1 at one stage and something could have happened then. We didn't play perfectly for 90 minutes and we have to work on that.
Dante, Bayern defender
I think it is a great result. Against a big team with top players, it is very pleasing – although we know we have the return leg to come. We knew they would put us under pressure [after Lukas Podolski's goal], we expected that – it comes with the territory in the Champions League. But we stayed focused and got a third goal, which could be important.
I am really enjoying [playing in the Champions League]. It is a different competition and everyone is so focused. I like having the extra responsibility in these big knockout games, I'm enjoying it a lot.
Luiz Gustavo, Bayern midfielder
It was a good game. Away from home, against a big team like Arsenal, we played well and got a result that suits us. But we know that things could still get tricky, so we have to give our all in the return leg. We will play our own game [in Munich] and go after more goals. We have a slight advantage, but we always want to win every game. We know there are lots of great sides still in the competition, all of whom could reach the final, but with our quality and potential, we are prepared. We have the ability to go far.
