In the space of eight days FC Bayern München have celebrated winning the Bundesliga title with six matches to spare and booked a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the third time in four years – by twice beating Italian champions Juventus 2-0. 'L'appetito vien mangiando' (appetite comes with eating) as they say in Italy, where Bayern gave yet another great demonstration of their strength. That is certainly the case for Mario Mandžukić, who scored the opener in Turin. "We're going for everything, why not?" the striker told UEFA.com.
Mario Mandžukić, Bayern forward
No, it wasn't easy. We knew we were preparing for a tough game. We said we had to keep our cool and try to get a goal, and that's what we did. We were ready for them to come at us. We didn't think it was going to be easy after winning the first leg 2-0, like people were thinking, but after a good period from Juve we got back into the game and it became easier for us. I think it was the 64th minute [when Mandžukić scored] and we knew then that they had to get four goals, so that made it easier for us.
If you want to win then you've got to play against the best so I don't mind who we get in the semi-finals. If we play as well as this – and we have such good players – then we know we can do it. It's a dream for me to come so far in my first season, and we can win everything. It's good we've already wrapped up the Bundesliga so the coach can rest a few players. We're going for everything, why not? We've shown we have the quality and so we want to win everything.
Thomas Müller, Bayern midfielder
Of course things are going well for us – we're playing really well and we're getting good results. Maybe we didn't play as well today as we did a week ago, but if you win 2-0 in Turin then it must mean you've not done much wrong. We knew Juventus are a good team but we had lots of confidence because we know how much quality we have – so I did think we were favourites. But we still had to keep two clean sheets against them.
Not everything was perfect today, we had a few weaknesses in defence, but overall we played two good games and I think we can improve further. I don't mind who we get, we'll just have to see.
