PSV Eindhoven have signed Netherlands Under-21 midfielder Adam Maher for an undisclosed fee from Eredivisie rivals AZ Alkmaar.
The 19-year-old has joined the club he opened the scoring against in the Dutch Cup final two months ago on a contract running until the summer of 2018. He will wear the No6 shirt previously belonging to retired captain Mark van Bommel.
"A year and a half year ago I said I would love to go to PSV," said Maher during his presentation at PSV's De Herdgang training ground. "I am happy that now it has finally come to that. PSV really made an effort to get me. The fans have also shown they really wanted to see me play in Eindhoven. Now I want to pay back the club with my performances on the pitch."
Maher appeared in all four of the Jong Oranje's matches at the recent UEFA European U21 Championship in Israel, scoring in their opening 3-2 victory over Germany, and has also been capped at senior level. A graduate of the AZ academy, Maher marked his first-team debut, a 3-0 defeat of FC BATE Borisov in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League group stage, with a goal. In total he registered 12 times in 66 top-flight outings for the Alkmaar side.
His new employers enter the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League in the third qualifying round following their runners-up finish last term in the Eredivisie.
