FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has been rewarded with a three-year contract extension that ties him to the Camp Nou until 30 June 2018.

Barcelona announced the deal on Busquets's 25th birthday, explaining that the Spanish international's renewed terms include an option to prolong them for a further 12 months. His contractual buy-out clause remains at €150m.

Son of former Barcelona goalkeeper Carles Busquets, Sergio came through Barça's La Masia youth academy before making his Liga debut in September 2008. He has racked up 238 appearances in all competitions for the Azulgrana, winning four Liga titles, two UEFA Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups, two Copas del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups. Busquets was also a member of the Spain squads that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2012.

Barcelona, looking to claim a fifth European Cup, begin their 2013/14 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
