UEFA Champions League group stage entrants Olympique de Marseille have won the race to sign 20-year-old midfielder Gianelli Imbula from newly promoted EA Guingamp on a five-year contract.
The Belgian-born player arrives at Stade Vélodrome for a reported transfer fee of €7.5m. He claimed the Ligue 2 player of the season award last term and caught the eye with an impressive display away to Marseille in the French Cup round of 64. Imbula made 90 league appearances over four campaigns on Guingamp's books. With OM having finished as runners-up in France, their new recruit will take a keen interest in the UEFA Champions League group stage draw on 29 August in Monaco. Guingamp came second in Ligue 2 to return to the top flight in 2013/14.
