Lahm looks back on Wembley win with relief

"The pressure was immense, I had never felt anything like that," Philipp Lahm told UEFA.com as he recalled FC Bayern München's victory over Borussia Dortmund in May.

Given that FC Bayern München had fallen at the final hurdle in two of the three previous seasons, it is little wonder that captain Philipp Lahm felt a palpable sense of relief when his side prevailed in the 2013 UEFA Champions League showpiece.

Pitted against Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, Bayern seemingly had everything to lose at Wembley in May. The likes of Lahm, Arjen Robben, Thomas Müller, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Gomez had been present for the final defeats by FC Internazionale Milano in 2010 and Chelsea FC two years later. However, it proved a case of third time lucky for Jupp Heynckes's team, who went on to wrap up a European and domestic treble – the Bundesliga and German Cup trophies plus the UEFA Champions League.

"The pressure was immensely high, I had never felt anything like that before," said 29-year-old full-back Lahm of Bayern's triumph. "It's an incredible feeling, that's for sure, especially after we lost the final so narrowly at home in a penalty shoot-out. You could see at the beginning of the match that there was great pressure on the team, as the team knew it would be even harder to lose a third final. There was immense pressure on us."
