Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio is set to miss the start of their UEFA Champions League campaign after suffering a knee injury.

The 27-year-old was forced off in the first half of Juve's 4-0 Italian Super Cup defeat of SS Lazio in Rome last night. An MRI scan at Turin's Fornaca Clinic revealed a tear of his medial collateral ligament and the Italian international is out for a month, likely ruling him out of the Italian champions' group stage opener on 17 or 18 September. He will also miss Italy's potentially decisive FIFA World Cup qualifiers at home to Bulgaria on 6 September and the Czech Republic four days later.
