Confidence key for Arsenal's in-form Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey pointed to renewed confidence as "the biggest change" in his game after helping Arsenal FC past Fenerbahçe SK, whose Pierre Webó could only salute the victors.

Aaron Ramsey was able to reflect on another fine performance after his double helped Arsenal FC beat Fenerbahçe SK 2-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate to march into the UEFA Champions League group stage for the 16th year running.

A scorer in the first leg, the Wales midfielder attributed his excellent recent form to renewed confidence, having finally put the broken leg he suffered in 2010 out of his mind.

Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal midfielder
We did ever so well last season to get that fourth spot, and we didn't want to let that slip away in the qualifying games. I thought we had a very professional result, not conceding one goal and scoring five against a good opponent. It just shows the quality we have in this team.

[Fenerbahçe] are probably my lucky team. I should probably start playing against them every week. I was delighted to get on the scoresheet again and it was a good, positive performance.

I've always been getting into the positions [to score], even last season, but maybe I've not been so composed in the shot to score the goal. With the injury I had, it takes a long time to overcome that mentally, but now I'm over that and I feel like I'm confident again and things are happening naturally on the pitch. I haven't changed anything. Confidence is such a big thing in this game, and I feel like that's definitely been the biggest change.

[Sunday's north London derby against Tottenham Hostpur FC] is going to be a great game: both teams are going to look forward to it. We're at home and we've been successful in the last few seasons. We've had three good results now, where we've been really confident, and hopefully we can take that into the Spurs game.

Pierre Webó, Fenerbahçe forward
We knew when the draw was made that Arsenal are a really big team, and they were better in the two games. We tried to pull off a miracle, but they were better than us. I congratulate them and wish them a good campaign.

We started the game with a lot of desire to trouble a very good team, but they had the composure that comes with beginning three goals up. It was a lot easier for them – they didn't need to take risks and they played very well.

We have great fans. They spur us on all the time and they're always with us. When they're there, we feel at ease. It's always a pleasure to have them in the stands, but it was a shame about the result. We really wanted to bring them joy but we couldn't turn the situation around.
