Ferreira follows Mourinho

New Chelsea FC manager José Mourinho has raided his former club for the services of Paulo Ferreira.

New Chelsea FC manager José Mourinho has raided his former club FC Porto for the services of Portuguese international defender Paulo Ferreira.

Terms undecided
The 25-year-old right-back, who is part of the Portugal squad at UEFA EURO 2004™, has agreed to join the London outfit for €20m, although the terms of the contract have not yet been finalised.

Second signing
Mourinho took Ferreira to Porto for a tenth of the new fee, €2m, two years ago and he became an integral part of the side, playing every single minute of the Portuguese club's triumphant 13-match UEFA Champions League campaign last season. He will feature in the competition again in 2004/05 as Chelsea finished second in the Premiership to qualify automatically for the group stage.

English opposition
Ferreira made his international debut in a friendly against England, the country of his new employers and coincidentally the opposition his side face again in the EURO 2004™ quarter-finals on Thursday, when he will be hoping to win his 14th cap.
