A banner will be displayed on the pitch at all UEFA Champions League matches this week as a tribute to Nelson Mandela. It reads: Madiba, the world will never forget.

UEFA milestones and competition statistics
• Juanfran is serving a one-game ban; Raúl García is a booking away from a suspension.

• Diego Costa missed matchdays one and two as he completed a four-game ban following his red card against FC Viktoria Plzeň in last season's UEFA Europa League.

General information
• Goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia made his Atlético debut on Saturday as the holders began their Copa del Rey defence with a 4-0 win at third-division UE Sant Andreu in the first leg of their round of 32 tie.

• Atlético have won nine out of nine at home since a 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup in August.

• Atlético beat Getafe CF 7-0 on 23 November, their biggest Liga win in 25 years.

• Atlético have won 16 of their last 19 games in all competitions. The team's eight-match winning start to Liga – one shy of Real Madrid CF's top-flight record – ended with a 1-0 loss to RCD Espanyol on 19 October.

• Diego Costa has scored 15 goals in as many Liga appearances this season. The Brazilian-born forward was called up by Spain during the recent international break but pulled out of the squad with an adductor problem.

• Atlético have conceded just once in the opening 30 minutes of games this season, Jackson Martínez's 16th-minute strike for Porto on matchday two.

• Atlético conceded the fewest goals in the Liga (31) last term with Thibaut Courtois – now in his third season on loan from Chelsea FC – winning the Zamora Trophy, awarded to the keeper with the lowest goals-to-game ratio. He was named the Liga's best goalkeeper in 2012/13 at last week's Liga de Fútbol Profesional awards, when Simeone won the best coach prize.

UEFA milestones and competition statistics
• Lucho González has scored in each of the nine seasons he has appeared in the UEFA Champions League – six with Porto and three with Olympique de Marseille.

• One point from three games represented Porto's worst ever home UEFA Champions League group stage campaign.

• Alex Sandro is a booking away from a ban.

• Porto's 53-match unbeaten run in the Liga ended on 30 November when they lost 1-0 at A. Académica de Coimbra. The Dragons had won 42 and drawn 11 since a 3-1 loss at Gil Vicente FC on 29 January 2012, which was their only defeat in 109 games in the Portuguese top flight.

• It was Porto's first league defeat at Académica in 42 years and saw them lose at least a share of top spot in the Portuguese Liga for the first time this season.

• Porto bounced back on Saturday with a 2-0 home win against SC Braga with both goals coming from Jackson Martínez. The Colombian striker, the 26-goal Portuguese Liga top scorer last term, has struck in 12 of Porto's 19 fixtures in all competitions this season, 13 goals in all.

• Nabil Ghilas has not featured since returning from international duty with a muscle problem but was an unused substitute on Saturday.

• Porto are 78 games unbeaten at home in the Liga, since 25 October 2008 and a 3-2 loss to Leixões SC.
