Club Atlético de Madrid winger Arda Turan has signed a new contract running until 2017.

The former Galatasaray AŞ midfielder, 26, is the latest Atlético man to commit to the cause after Juanfran also extended his terms until 2017 and Koke, Óliver Torres and Javi Manquillo all signed five-year deals. Arda joined Atlético in 2011, racking up nearly 100 appearances and winning the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Copa del Rey – as well as striking in Wednesday's 3-1 opening UEFA Champions League Group G defeat of FC Zenit.

"I feel very happy to extend my contract with Atlético," the Turkish international said. "After two years in the Atlético shirt I feel part of this family, which is the club. If I'm as happy as the club are in agreeing this extension, it's thanks to my team-mates and we're all achieving together."

Sporting director José Luis Caminero added: "By extending Arda's contract we have put in place another important piece of our squad. It's really pleasing. Arda gives us imagination and creativity, he is a unique player."
