FC Schalke 04 have been deprived of Jefferson Farfán for around four weeks after the winger suffered a groin injury during their 1-0 defeat of FC Basel 1893 on Tuesday.

FC Schalke 04 winger Jefferson Farfán has been sidelined for around four weeks and will almost certainly miss his side's UEFA Champions League Group E encounter with Chelsea FC on 22 October.

The 28-year-old succumbed to a groin injury during half-time of the Royal Blues' 1-0 victory at FC Basel 1893 on Tuesday. The result – secured courtesy of Julian Draxler's second half-strike – consolidated Schalke's place at the group summit after they dispatched FC Steaua Bucureşti 3-0 on matchday one.

Farfán, who has made 148 league appearances for Schalke since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2008, could also miss the Ruhr derby with Borussia Dortmund on 26 October.
