Sven Bender will miss Borussia Dortmund's UEFA Champions League Group F decider against Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday after twisting his right ankle and suffering tendon damage.

Bender, 24, sustained the injury during Dortmund's 1-0 Bundesliga loss to fellow UEFA Champions League contenders Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday. The midfielder has missed only 15 minutes of his side's group stage campaign. The club also announced on their official website that Nuri Şahin has suffered a partial ligament tear in his right ankle but, according to the club's doctors, there is still a chance that he could be available for the trip to France.

Dortmund will reach the round of 16 if they defeat Marseille, although a draw would suffice if SSC Napoli do not prevail at home against section leaders Arsenal FC. Dortmund can only afford to lose if Napoli are also beaten.
