Akanji boost for Sliema

Sliema Wanderers FC have agreed a new contract with Nigerian international goalkeeper Murphy Akanji.

Maltese champions Sliema Wanderers FC have agreed a new one-year contract with their Nigerian international goalkeeper Murphy Akanji.

Successive titles
The 26-year-old Akanji has played a key role in Sliema's two successive title wins. "I can confirm that I have signed a new one-year contract with Sliema," he told uefa.com. "I am very happy to be staying at Sliema for another year and look forward in helping the club win other major silverware this coming season. With the UEFA Champions League coming up we are ready to go."

July date
Sliema face Lithuanian champions FBK Kaunas in the first leg of the first qualifying round of the Champions League on 14 July at the National Stadium in Valletta.
