FC Bayern München defender Jérôme Boateng has extended his contract with the UEFA Champions League holders by a further three years until summer 2018.
The 25-year-old German international has signed the extension after making 66 league appearances for Bayern and helping them win a famous Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League treble last season. "I am happy. Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world and playing here is not just enjoyable, it's an honour," enthused the former Hertha BSC Berlin and Hamburger SV player, who arrived in Munich from Manchester City FC in July 2011.
Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: "Jérôme has improved greatly since joining the club. He is one of our most important players. For that reason alone it was an easy decision to reward him with a new contract."
Bayern's ten-game run of UEFA Champions League victories ended with a 3-2 home defeat by Manchester City on Tuesday. Josep Guardiola's side nonetheless emerged as Group D winners and will find out their round of 16 opponents when the draw is made in Nyon on 16 December.
