Club Atlético de Madrid have received a boost ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at AC Milan after midfielder Raúl García agreed to remain with the Rojiblancos until June 2018.
The 27-year-old – whose previous deal was due to expire next summer – has played a crucial role for Diego Simeone's side this season, registering 14 goals in 33 games in all competitions, including three in six UEFA Champions League appearances.
Speaking ahead of Atlético's departure to Italy, Raúl García said: "I'm so happy this deal has been reached. Both the club and I wanted our association to continue as I feel very at home here. Things are working out well [for us this season] and we are all working hard so we can remain on this path."
The former Spanish Under-21 international arrived at Atlético in 2007 from CA Osasuna, where he returned on loan for the 2011/12 campaign. He has scored 19 goals in 170 top-flight matches for the Colchoneros while collecting UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Copa del Rey honours.
