Czech international defender Tomáš Hübschman has joined Ukrainian giants FC Shakhtar Donetsk from AC Sparta Praha.
The UEFA Champions League contenders have paid an estimated €3m for the central defender who played in one match at UEFA EURO 2004™, as Karel Brückner's men overcame Germany in their final group stage game. Hübschman has signed a five-year deal with his new club.
The 22-year-old was a graduate of the Sparta youth system and has spent his entire career at the Letná stadium with the exception of a season spent on loan at FK Jablonec 97. He won his first international cap in a FIFA World Cup play-off against Belgium in November 2001 and won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship with the Czech Republic in Basel in 2002.
The defender will join fellow countryman Jan Lastuvka at the Shakhtar stadium. The goalkeeper joined the Donetsk club from 2003/04 Czech champions FC Baník Ostrava earlier this month. Shakhtar's Champions League campaign this season begins in the second qualifying round.
