Polish striker Maciej Bykowski has made a surprise move from OFI Crete FC to Greek champions Panathinaikos FC.

The 27-year-old moved to Crete 12 months ago having played for seven different Polish clubs in as many seasons, but was not expecting the switch to the UEFA Champions League contenders to link up with compatriot Emmanuel Olisadebe. "On Wednesday I was in Poland on holiday, on Thursday I signed a contract with Panathinaikos," Bykowishi said.
Group stage bid
Panathinaikos will begin their Champions League campaign in the group stage having claimed their first Greek title since 1996 last season. Matchday 1 is on 14-15 September.
