Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder Jens Hegeler is set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining a right ankle injury on domestic duty.
The 26-year-old picked up the problem during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Hannover 96, requiring him to be substituted after 24 minutes. An MRI scan has since revealed the extent of the injury, and Hegeler is now likely to need surgery.
The former 1. FC Köln player has made five UEFA Champions League appearances for the Werkself this term, though he remained on the bench for his side's 4-0 home loss to Paris Saint-Germain in their round of 16 opener on 18 February. Sami Hyypiä's men will attempt to overturn that daunting deficit at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
