Madrid victory tarnished by Jesé knee injury

Real Madrid CF's 3-1 win over FC Schalke 04 was sullied by a serious injury to striker Jesé who suffered "a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee".

Real Madrid CF striker Jesé will not play again this season after sustaining a serious knee injury in the second leg of the Spanish side's UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against FC Schalke 04.

The 21-year-old was substituted eight minutes into the Merengues' 3-1 home win, which sealed a 9-2 aggregate victory over the Bundesliga team. A statement on the Madrid website said that, following a scan and test, the forward has been "diagnosed with a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee".

Madrid will discover their opponents in the quarter-finals when the draw is made in Nyon on Friday at 12.00CET.
