Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl will finish his career with the club after agreeing terms on a new 12-month deal running until 2015.

The holding midfielder, 34, has made 249 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund since making the move from SC Freiburg in 2001. During that time, he has won three championships and a German Cup, among other trophies. "Borussia Dortmund, our wonderful team, the fans and the city of Dortmund have been my home for many years," said Kehl, capped 31 times by Germany.

"It is for that reason that I've decided to prolong the connection. As a result I have reached the decision to end my career as a professional footballer in 2015 in the hope that I can enjoy some unforgettable moments and success before then with this incredible team," he continued. "I'm delighted to be spending one final season in the Bundesliga. However, the time for me to start a new chapter of my life is not far away, which makes me just as happy."

Sporting director Michael Zorc added: "Sebastian is an important leader, boasts a wealth of experience and, on top of that, has served Borussia Dortmund as a valuable role model. We're very pleased that he's decided to remain with the club until 2015 and end his incredible career as a BVB player."
