FC Bayern München's selection worries have increased ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final decider against Manchester United FC after Xherdan Shaqiri picked up a thigh injury on domestic duty on Saturday.

The Switzerland midfielder was substituted at half-time during Bayern's 1-0 Bundesliga loss at FC Augsburg and later underwent tests by club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. Those examinations revealed a badly torn muscle in Shaqiri's right thigh, and the 22-year-old is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Defending UEFA Champions League champions Bayern host United on Wednesday having secured a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last Tuesday. Josep Guardiola's side will also be missing suspended midfielders Javi Martínez and Bastian Schweinsteiger, plus injured trio Thiago Alcántara, Diego Contento and Tom Starke.
