Having already met their opponents 20 times in UEFA club competition, including a 2011/12 UEFA Champions League semi-final which FC Bayern München won on penalties, Real Madrid CF are excited by the prospect of a tough game – regardless of their past travails in Germany.
Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid coach
The Champions League semi-final draw is a good one, because of the fact we are in it. It's great for us to face a difficult side [like Bayern] and we are hopeful of giving our very best in order to prevail. [Josep] Guardiola is one of the best coaches in the world and the tie will be hard for both teams. We are still competing on three fronts and are highly motivated. I spoke to [Cristiano Ronaldo regarding his thigh injury] and he is not happy. This is a very important moment of the season but we are not willing to take risks.
Iker Casillas, Madrid goalkeeper
Bayern will be tough opponents – they are the current European champions. We will go into the tie fully committed from the off. Going to Germany hasn't been great for us but we've been getting through the rounds [against opponents from that country]. [If we are] to get to Lisbon, we have to go via Germany.
Josep Guardiola, Bayern coach
A fantastic draw – I'm really looking forward to it. They have quick players in their attack and quick players at the back, including a great keeper. I know them very well and I know how difficult it's going to be. Madrid have it all: a fantastic stadium, great fans, outstanding players and a manager with a lot of experience. It's going to be a big test for us against one of the best teams in the world. Even so, I have a lot of faith in my team.
Manuel Neuer, Bayern goalkeeper
I'm looking forward to our return to the Bernabeu. I've had a lot of great memories there. The semi-final second leg two years ago, which we won on penalties, was amazing. I also look forward to the atmosphere in the city, since both Real and Atletico are playing at home. Madrid will have fans from all four semi-finalists swarming the city on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm sure it's going to be quite a party.
Javi Martínez, Bayern midfielder
Real are the strongest team we could have drawn. It's going to be tough but I have confidence in our abilities. I've often lost against Real in the past with [Athletic Club] Bilbao. Hopefully that trend will change now that I'm playing for Bayern.
Philipp Lahm, Bayern midfielder
Two top teams are playing each other. These semi-final ties are both worthy of being finals. I think the chances are 50-50, but you only have one goal when you are in the semi-final of the Champions League – reach the final at all costs.
Franck Ribéry, Bayern midfielder
A tough draw. Two very attacking sides will go head to head. I expect two great games and hope that we can reach the final.
Thomas Müller, Bayern forward
Real Madrid is a great draw! I look forward to two games against a lot of world-class players.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern chairman
It's a game that all fans of Bayern and Real can look forward to. We will play against one of the best teams in the world. I predict two very tough matches.
Paul Breitner, Bayern chief scout
Our team is in a very good situation. We are on course to defend the treble and become the first team to successfully defend the Champions League. I look forward to the encounter with Madrid.
