FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué has agreed a four-year contract extension that ties the 27-year-old to the Catalan giants until June 2019.
The Spanish international – scorer of 20 goals in 266 games in all competitions for Barcelona – had been committed to the Blaugrana until 2015. He returned to the club of his youth in 2008 following spells with Manchester United FC and Real Zaragoza, the latter on loan.
During six Camp Nou campaigns, Piqué has won 16 trophies, including four Liga titles and two UEFA Champions Leagues. The announcement of the centre-back's revised deal comes a day after Luis Enrique was confirmed as Barcelona's new coach. The club also revealed that goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen had joined from VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Having finished second in the Liga behind Club Atlético de Madrid, Barça will enter the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League group stage.
