Injury despair for Trochowski

The FC Bayern München midfield player Piotr Trochowski is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines.

Plaster cast
The 20-year-old midfield player is not expected to return to action until mid-September after tearing ankle ligaments in training on Tuesday. He will spend the next ten days with his left ankle in plaster followed by a four-week rehabilitation programme.

Battle for place
Bayern visit Hamburger SV when the new season begins on Saturday, and Trochowski will have to battle for his place in coach Felix Magath's four-man midfield when he returns to action. Magath said: "It is sad because he was looking good in training. Hopefully he will be back with us soon."

Champions League opener
The injury is likely to keep Trochowski, who has just extended his contract until 2007, out of the club's opening match in the UEFA Champions League. Bayern enter at the group stage, which gets under way on 15/16 September.
