Chelsea recruit Rémy as Torres replacement

Chelsea FC have signed Loïc Rémy from Queen's Park Rangers FC after meeting his release clause, with the striker filling the void left by Fernando Torres's move to AC Milan.

The uncertainty surrounding the future of Queens Park Rangers FC's Loïc Rémy has come to an end after Chelsea FC met the forward's €10.2m release clause.

The French international, who has scored five goals in 27 appearances for Les Bleus, was reportedly coveted by a number of clubs but has agreed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

"I feel very happy and very proud," said the 27-year-old. "When I heard Chelsea wanted to sign me, I said 'Let's go' straight away because they are one of the best clubs in the world. I remember the amazing atmosphere at Stamford Bridge when I played there for Marseille and I can't wait to play for the first time in front of my new fans."

Rémy makes the short trip to QPR's neighbours after a successful season-long loan deal at Newcastle United FC, where he scored 14 times in 26 outings. The dynamic forward, who can play anywhere across the front three positions, graduated from Olympique Lyonnais' academy in 2006/07 and went on to score 57 league goals during his time in Ligue 1, which included spells at RC Lens, OGC Nice and Olympique de Marseille.

His arrival will fill the void left by Fernando Torres's departure to AC Milan, after the Spain forward agreed a two-year loan deal with the Rossoneri.
