Agüero, Messi and Ronaldo make their mark

Sergio Agüero helped himself to a quartet of goals for Manchester City FC on a weekend that brought another Lionel Messi milestone and a new record for Cristiano Ronaldo.

A number of gifted goalscorers grabbed the limelight over the weekend, with Sergio Agüero leading the way thanks to a quartet of efforts for Manchester City FC against Tottenham Hotspur FC. Liga duo Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could not match that sparkling haul, but the FC Barcelona talent brought up yet another milestone while his Real Madrid CF counterpart set a new record.

Club Atlético de Madrid remain unbeaten at home in the Liga after securing a 2-0 win against RCD Espanyol on Sunday. 
Juventus dropped their first Serie A points this term, Paul Pogba striking back in a 1-1 draw at US Sassuolo Calcio.
Malmö FF lost 2-1 at home against IF Elfsborg in their first league game after successfully completing their title defence.
• Olympiacos FC twice fell behind at Ergotelis FC, but Kostas Mitroglou's second goal in the final minute earned a 3-2 win.

Real Madrid CF won 5-0 at Levante UD, with Ronaldo's double taking him to 15 goals in his first eight Liga games – a new record.
• Shkelzen Gashi struck for the fifth time this season to earn a 1-0 win for FC Basel 1893 at BSC Young Boys.
Liverpool FC had a last-gasp Steven Caulker own goal to thank for a 3-2 success at Queens Park Rangers FC, with four goals coming in the final three minutes plus added time.
• PFC Ludogorets Razgrad defeated bottom side FC Haskovo 3-1, Marcelinho equalising with a club-record 26th top-flight goal.

22 October: Ludogorets v Basel, Liverpool v Real Madrid

AS Monaco FC recorded Saturday's only Ligue 1 home win, beating Évian Thonon Gaillard FC 2-0 via efforts from João Moutinho and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco.
FC Zenit remain unbeaten in Russia after Javi García and Hulk hauled them back to 1-1 and then 2-2 at FC Krasnodar.
• Despite scoring twice in first ten minutes, Bayer 04 Leverkusen squandered a 3-0 half-time lead to draw 3-3 at VfB Stuttgart.
SL Benfica beat second-tier SC Covilhã 3-2 in the Portuguese Cup, with Brazilian forward Jonas grabbing a hat-trick for the Eagles.

• İlkay Gündoğan's first Bundesliga game in 14 months after a back injury ended in defeat as Borussia Dortmund lost 2-1 at 1. FC Köln.
• Alexis Sánchez scored Arsenal FC's first and set up a last-gasp equaliser for Danny Welbeck as the Gunners were held 2-2 by Hull City.
Galatasaray AŞ beat ten-man Fenerbahçe SK 2-1 in the Istanbul derby, Wesley Sneijder striking twice late on.
RSC Anderlecht remain unbeaten 11 league games in after Steven Defour struck back to secure a 1-1 draw at KV Mechelen.

FC Bayern München trounced SV Werder Bremen 6-0 to stay top, Xabi Alonso notching his first Bayern goal from a free-kick.
• Mattia Destro, Adem Ljajić and Francesco Totti earned AS Roma a 3-0 win against AC Chievo Verona.
• Sergio Agüero hit four – and had a penalty saved – as Manchester City beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-1.
PFC CSKA Moskva enjoyed a second 6-0 victory this term against FC Kuban Krasnodar, but right-back Mário Fernandes suffered an elbow injury.

• Edinson Cavani scored a penalty but was one of three players sent off as Paris Saint-Germain won 3-1 at RC Lens.
• Lionel Messi rattled in his 250th Liga goal as FC Barcelona saw off SD Eibar 3-0.
• Kolbeinn Sigthórsson's 71st-minute strike rescued a 1-1 draw for AFC Ajax at FC Twente.
APOEL FC lead by six points from Apollon Limassol FC in Cyprus, and are next in action against Nea Salamis Famagusta FC on 26 October.

• Oscar and Cesc Fàbregas registered in a 2-1 Chelsea FC success at Crystal Palace FC, both sides ending with ten men.
FC Schalke 04 beat Hertha BSC Berlin 2-0 in coach Roberto di Matteo's first game in charge.
NK Maribor suffered their first defeat in seven league games, falling 2-1 at home to NK Celje to lose ground on leaders NK Domžale.
Sporting Clube de Portugal eliminated fellow group stage contenders FC Porto from the Portuguese Cup, prevailing 3-1.

21 October: Schalke v Sporting, Chelsea v Maribor

Porto lost out to Sporting in the Portuguese Cup; Jackson Martínez equalised following Iván Marcano's own goal but had a penalty saved later.
FC BATE Borisov won 4-1 on Thursday at FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk, the only side to have beaten them in the league this season.
FC Shakhtar Donetsk demolished FC Volyn Lutsk 6-2, Luiz Adriano's two goals putting him second on the club's all-time scorers' list.
• Athletic Club lie fourth from bottom in Spain after failing to build on an early Aritz Aduriz penalty in a 1-1 draw with RC Celta de Vigo.
