Dynamo display vindicates Szabo

FC Dynamo Kyiv coach Jozsef Szabo said he never doubted his side would overcome AS Roma in Group B.

Jozsef Szabo, Dynamo coach
I am glad the supporters came to the stadium tonight to cheer their favourite team, Dynamo. The victory not only made our fans happy, but also inspired our players. We were in full control of the game and the goals were just a matter of time. When we took the lead I had no doubt about the outcome. But, compared to our first meeting earlier this season, Roma had improved noticeably. You can see that Del Neri is doing a good job building the team. We are the leaders of the group and will do everything in our last game to qualify for the last 16. At the break I asked my lads to increase the pace and be more aggressive. That determined the final result, as we managed to stretch the Italian side's defence and attack them using the spaces and the slippery pitch.

Luigi Del Neri, Roma coach
Although we knew our chances to qualify were slim, as we needed to win both our remaining matches [by substantial margins], we went into today's game thinking of a win. Unfortunately we could not manage that, but it does not change our plan for our next game - we will do our best against Madrid. Generally, I am satisfied with the performance. My players fulfilled our game plan and kept the tactical pattern. Unfortunately, we had to take off Mido and thus make some changes up front, leaving two attackers instead of three. That eased the task for Dynamo and they got a late win. Today we had many young players on the pitch. We have worked productively with them and I liked their attitude very much. Hopefully in future Champions League seasons, Roma's side will be based around these young players and they will be able to make their mark.
