Šcasný seeks repeat show

Panathinaikos FC coach Zdenek Šcasný says his side must build on defeating PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Cup.

Zdenek Šcasný, Panathinaikos coach
I would like to congratulate my players on their performance and the win, in the last ever Champions League match to be played at the Apostolos Nikolaidis stadium. My players owed that to Panathinaikos, who have recorded some famous wins at this ground. Although PSV lost 4-1, they are a very solid and disciplined side, and it wasn't as easy as the scoreline suggests. I wish PSV luck in their next encounter in the Champions League. However, we showed the kind of football we are capable of. Now we will try our luck in the UEFA Cup and I hope we perform like we did tonight - well organised in defence and lively in attack. We collected nine points from our matches but sadly we are out. In other groups, nine points would have secured qualification. But that's football. I cannot say where exactly the qualification was lost. Today's game will help us from a psychological point of view, though, especially after the league defeat by Olympiacos [CFP].

Guus Hiddink, PSV coach
Today's scoreline is disappointing, this is not a normal result for us. We conceded some soft goals and this derived from a lack of communication between our defenders. Until half-time, the game was even - we were trailing 2-1 but it was a score that could be overturned. But in the second half, we missed a penalty, and our performance deteriorated due to defensive errors. This should be a good lesson for us - that we should put up a fight even when the match isn't crucial. If the penalty had gone in, the game would have taken a different course. It's a heavy defeat, but it doesn't affect our self-confidence. We must learn from our mistakes. The final group classification is fair. Eindhoven are where they deserve to be, as are Arsenal, who are a very prestigious club. As for our next encounters in the Champions League, I hope we can go far but we must be realistic - we do not have the same financial background as other clubs.
