It was back to domestic duties for the four UEFA Champions League semi-finalists this weekend and, for the most part, they enjoyed their assignments. FC Bayern München had plenty to savour as they clinched their third consecutive Bundesliga title and the top two won in Spain – leaving only Juventus licking their wounds after a rare derby defeat.

RCD Espanyol 0-2 FC Barcelona
Barça temporarily opened up a five-point lead at the Liga summit with a victory against their city neighbours. Both goals came inside the opening 25 minutes as Neymar completed a 25-pass move, before Lionel Messi slotted in his 47th of the season.

Jordi Alba's red card (54) complicated matters but, as with the previous two times the Catalan giants had been reduced to ten men in the Liga this term, they came out on top nonetheless.

It also proved a special day for Xavi Hernández, as he entered the fray with a few minutes left to become only the eighth player to make 500 Liga appearances.

FC Bayern München 1-0 Hertha BSC Berlin
Josep Guardiola's side celebrated wrapping up the Bundesliga title, though not until a day after their narrow success against Hertha. The club's third consecutive crown was confirmed on Sunday when nearest rivals VfL Wolfsburg slipped to a 1-0 loss at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, but Bayern had to open up the possibility first – and they did it with a hard-fought victory against the men from the capital.

The runaway leaders were made to wait on home soil, yet they earned their breakthrough on 80 minutes when Bastian Schweinsteiger buried the ball high into the net. Mönchengladbach's win then left Die Bayern out of reach, their 25th title coming with four games to spare.

Torino CF 2- 1 Juventus
Juventus were brought back down to earth on Sunday as they suffered their first defeat in the Derby della Mole since 1995. Andrea Pirlo gave the visitors the lead with a superb free-kick, but Matteo Darmian levelled on the cusp of half-time and former Juve forward Fabio Quagliarella hit the winner close to the hour-mark.

Pirlo hit the post from another set piece, but there was to be no comeback as Massimiliano Allegri's men lost for the third time in Serie A this season. The defeat also ended their chances of wrapping up their fourth successive Scudetto this weekend, though they also needed SS Lazio to lose – and the capital outfit, 14 points back, drew 1-1 with AC Chievo Verona.

RC Celta de Vigo 2-4 Real Madrid CF
Javier Hernández followed up his decisive effort against Club Atlético de Madrid on Wednesday with another two goals as Madrid made sure to keep the pressure on Barcelona.

Starting in Karim Benzema's absence, the Mexico striker pounced on a James Rodríguez through ball for his first, after Toni Kroos had cancelled out Nolito's early opener for the hosts. Santiago Mina brought tenacious Celta back on terms, but James and Hernández added to Madrid's tally to leave the Liga title race still tight with five games remaining.
