Buffon on Juve's final disappointment

Gianluigi Buffon said Juventus lost just when they looked like winning as he reflected on another UEFA Champions League final defeat against "the best team in the world".

Where the final was lost
There was a moment, a ten-minute spell, when we thought we had the match in our hands and that's exactly when we lost it. It would have been an extraordinary result. We didn't manage to win, but not because we didn't' try: we gave everything we had. Barcelona are the best team in the world in my opinion and the result is fair. However, we have proved that we could compete, both as team and as individual players.

What the future holds
We conceded early on, but we were always in the game. This performance gives us hope and confidence. We can make sure we stay at this level next season and within the next two or three years – who knows? – maybe I'll manage to make some other dreams come true.

The brilliance of Barcelona
In finals, even when you are stronger, you usually don't have more than a 51% chance of winning. Everybody was saying Barcelona had a much better chance than that. They were the clear favourites and that's to be expected considering the players they have, but we gave them a match and there was a moment when we really took control of the game.

Falling short at the last
In football, as in life, there are moments of great joy and moments when you get disappointed. We'd been celebrating a lot recently before this defeat. We're disappointed because we failed to make the last step in the way we wanted and as we maybe also deserved.

Responses to defeat
We're very happy with the reaction of our fans at the final whistle. It means that in sport it's not only winning the counts. [Andrea] Pirlo's tears after the game? We're all very upset, no doubt about that, but the way to express disappointment differs from person to person.
