Guardiola to replace Pellegrini as City manager

Josep Guardiola will replace Manuel Pellegrini as Manchester City manager in the summer.

Pellegrini announced in a press conference on Monday that he will be leaving his post at the end of the season. City swiftly issued a press release to announce his replacement. "Manchester City can confirm that in recent weeks it has commenced and finalised contractual negotiations with Pep Guardiola," it read.

Bayern München announced last month that Guardiola was set to end his three-year reign as coach in the summer, with Carlo Ancelotti taking over. Guardiola, who won three Liga titles and two UEFA Champions Leagues in his first coaching job at Barcelona, is on course to make it a hat-trick of Bundesliga crowns with Bayern, who are eight points clear at the summit.

Pellegrini has been City coach since summer 2013, winning the Premier League in his first season in charge. His team are currently second in the English top flight, three points adrift of leaders Leicester. City take on Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, with the first leg taking place in Ukraine on Wednesday 24 February.

Bayern, who take on Juventus in the last 16, are also still in Europe's premier club competition, meaning Guardiola could meet his future employers later in the knockout stages.
