Baresi reflects for Champions Gallery

On the 26th anniversary of AC Milan's European Cup defence in 1990, Franco Baresi looks back at the achievement as its images take pride of place in the UEFA Champions Gallery.

Baresi on Milan’s legacy

One of the most striking images at the UEFA Champions Gallery in Milan, due to open on Thursday as part of the UEFA Champions Festival, shows Franco Baresi proudly holding aloft the European Champion Clubs' Cup at Vienna's Praterstadion.

It was 23 May 1990 and AC Milan had successfully defended their trophy by defeating Benfica 1-0. At the height of their powers, the Italian giants had seen off all comers once again – and it seemed unimaginable that, 26 years on, the feat would not have been repeated since.

Captain that day, Baresi joins a long list of stars from the competition's history to explain what those images mean to them to promote the UEFA Champions Gallery, a free exhibition which will be open from Thursday to Sunday.
