Juventus forward Moise Kean has become the first player born this millennium to appear in the UEFA Champions League.

The 16-year-old, born in Vercelli to Ivorian parents, replaced Miralem Pjanić with six minutes left, with Juventus being held 1-1 by ten-man Sevilla. Within seconds Leonardo Bonucci had put the visitors ahead, Mario Mandžukić later sealing a 3-1 victory deep into added time.

Mandžukić was the only front-line striker at coach Massimiliano Allegri's disposal, with Marko Pjaca, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuaín all ruled out of Tuesday's game away to a Sevilla side that began the day top of Group H.

The teenager's cameo in southern Spain represented a second landmark in four days for Kean, who had become the first player born this millennium to feature in Serie A in Saturday's 3-0 success over Pescara.

He was born on 28 February 2000, making him 16 years and 267 days old on matchday five. He thus becomes the sixth-youngest player to figure in Europe's premier club competition.

What Kean missed ... a snap shot of 1999

United's dramatic late 1999 glory
  • Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black president, steps down.
  • Armageddon is forecast with the Y2K bug, which is supposed to down electrical systems the world over on 31 December 1999, sending the human race back to the Stone Age. (It doesn't.)
  • The Blair Witch Project becomes the most profitable film of all time, grossing more than $250m having cost just $60,000 to make.
  • The number of internet users worldwide reaches 150 million, over half of whom are from the United States.

Kean was described by UEFA.com as "the jewel in Juventus's youth system" prior to last summer's UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
