Juventus restore cushion, Leicester, Dortmund survive

Crotone 0-2 Juventus (Mandžukić 60, Higuaín 74)
In a Serie A game postponed from December due to the Italian Super Cup, Juventus restored their seven-point lead over Roma, who beat Fiorentina 4-0 on Tuesday. Lowly Crotone, hosting Juventus for the first time in the top division having only previously met them in Serie B in 2006/07, held out for an hour before Mario Mandžukić pounced on the rebound when a Kwadwo Asamoah header was saved. Gonzalo Higuaín then struck for the fourth consecutive Serie A away game. Marko Pjaca earned his first Juve start as Miralem Pjanić, Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner were rested.

Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Hertha Berlin, 3-2 pens (Reus 47; Kalou 27)
For the second round running, Dortmund needed penalties as they progressed to the German Cup quarter-finals. Thomas Tuchel stuck with the team that beat RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Saturday but Salomon Kalou volleyed Hertha ahead. However, after two half-time substitutions, Dortmund levelled after Marco Reus was set up by one of those replacements, Christian Pulišić. BVB's Sokratis Papastathopoulos was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 119th minute but that did not prevent penalties.

Dortmund ousted Union Berlin on spot-kicks in the last 32 and their capital curse struck again as Hertha failed with their opening two efforts and after Kalou also missed, BVB were through. They now visit 3. Liga side Sportfreunde Lotte, whose scalps this season include Bayer Leverkusen.

Leicester City 3-1 Derby County, aet (King 46, Ndidi 94, Gray 114; Camara 61)
New signing Wilfred Ndidi opened his account for Leicester in extra time to help send the Foxes past their East Midlands rivals into an FA Cup last-16 tie at third-tier Millwall on 18 February. A Leicester side with ten changes from Sunday's loss to Manchester United took the lead in this replay through Andy King's header but that was cancelled out by a deflected Abdoul Camara free-kick. Riyad Mahrez was introduced with nine minutes left and Derby's Max Lowe deflected the ball on to his own post but extra time was needed.

Ndidi came off the bench and soon smashed in from outside the box and a solo effort from the outstanding Demarai Gray sealed victory, something Leicester are yet to taste in the Premier League in 2017.

Barcelona 1-1 Atlético Madrid, agg: 3-2 (Luis Suárez 43; Gameiro 83)
Copa del Rey holders Barcelona reached a fourth successive final in an eventful second leg against Atlético. Leading 2-1 after last week's first leg, Luis Suárez's eighth goal in his last eight games seemed to have wrapped it up, but Sergio Roberto's red card early in the second period gave Atlético renewed hope.

The visitors were also reduced to ten men midway through the second period when Yannick Carrasco also collected a second yellow card, and when Kevin Gameiro missed a penalty ten minutes from time, Atlético's last chance looked to have gone. However, the Frenchman did find the net three minutes later and Suárez's late dismissal left Barcelona hanging on, but they survived and will play first-time finalists Alavés on 27 May.

Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 LOSC Lille (Cavani 70, Lucas 90+2; De Preville 86)
A winner from Lucas Moura deep into added time gave Paris a crucial victory that kept them in touch at the top of Ligue 1. Edinson Cavani's strike seemed to have ensured Unai Emery's side three crucial points, only for Nicolas de Preville to level for mid-table LOSC late on after a slip from Alphonse Areola. However, Lucas Moura smashed in from close range to score for the third game running and secure three precious points.

Bayern München 1-0 Wolfsburg (Douglas Costa 17)
A Douglas Costa goal early in the first half proved enough for holders Bayern to reach the German Cup quarter-finals for the tenth season in a row. The Brazilian made space 25 metres out and his left-foot shot took a deflection off former Bayern midfielder Luiz Gustavo to wrong-foot goalkeepers Koen Casteels; it was Costa's third goal in seven games. In the quarter-finas, Bayern host Schalke.

Montpellier 1-2 Monaco (Hilton 47; Glik 16, Mbappé 20)
Ligue 1 leaders Monaco made it five wins in their last six league matches with an away success at Montpellier. Kamil Glik rose to head in a Thomas Lemar free-kick to open the scoring, before Kylian Mbappé broke down the left to round off a swift counterattack. Hilton headed in from a corner shortly after half-time to reduce the advantage and Monaco ended with ten men as Jemerson picked up two yellow cards late on, but held out for three valuable points.
