De Rossi continues rapid rise

Italy midfield player Daniele De Rossi has signed a new contract with AS Roma lasting until 2009.
Italy midfield player Daniele De Rossi has signed a new contract with AS Roma that will keep him at the Stadio Olimpico until 2009.

Happy to sign
"I'm very happy to stay at Roma, and I'm pleased with the way the club has treated me," said the 21-year-old, who scored on his international debut against Norway last month and added another goal in last night's 4-3 FIFA World Cup qualifying win against Belarus.

Rapid rise
De Rossi made his Serie A bow in January 2003 and appeared 17 times for Roma in the 2003/04 season. However, he was still playing under the terms of a youth-team contract until he penned the new deal today.
