Eleven goal sin the semi-finals took this season's UEFA Champions League goal tally to 375 – ensuring the 2016/17 campaign will end as the most prolific of the 25 to date regardless of if anyone scores in Cardiff on 3 June.

With 375 goals scored in the 124 matches since the group stage started mean the amount per game will end up as the highest ever and will average three for the first time. The previous record was 2.94 a game in 2012/13, 368 goals in 125 matches. The best goals total was 449 in 2000/01, but a second group stage meant that 157 matches were played in those days as opposed to 125 now.

The last occurrence of an average of more than three per game in the leading European club competition was in the last all-knockout European Champion Clubs' Cup season of 1990/91, when 190 goals were registered in 59 matches.

Here are the key goalscoring numbers – for more consult the UEFA Champions League stats handbook.
