Video evidence
De Rossi was due to be suspended for one game after being shown a red card in the 87th minute of the Group B encounter in Germany. However, UEFA announced last Friday that the ban had been extended to three matches by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body after reviewing video evidence. De Rossi was sent off after he kicked out at Leverkusen's Jacek Krzynówek.
Panucci ban final
Meanwhile, the decision to hand a two-game ban to another Roma player, Christian Panucci, has become final as there has been no appeal. Panucci was red-carded in the 61st minute of the same match for elbowing Krzynówek as the two players rose for a header. The Control and Disciplinary Body decided that this example of particularly rough play merited a two-game suspension.
Sparta cross-appeal
UEFA is also submitting a cross-appeal in a case involving Czech club AC Sparta Praha. Sparta are themselves appealing against a €32,000 fine for the alleged racist attitude of some of their supporters at the Champions League home match against Olympique Lyonnais. UEFA, which is entitled to appeal against decisions under its disciplinary regulations, said it would seek a harsher punishment for the offence.
