Double blow for Rosenborg

Rosenborg BK will be without injured defenders Vidar Riseth and Christer Basma for the rest of 2004.

Absent from defeat
Vidar Riseth faces a two-month lay-off after undergoing surgery to repair a damaged achilles tendon yesterday. The 32-year-old Norwegian international played in his club's first three UEFA Champions League fixtures this season but was absent from the side that lost 1-0 at PSV Eindhoven last night.

New competition
He will now miss the remaining Group E games against Panathinaikos FC and Arsenal FC, and is also expected to sit out the opening three matches of the new Scandinavian Royal League, which will be played during the winter break.

Basma out, Berg in
There was more bad news for Rosenborg when right-back Christer Basma, also 32, was ruled out for the remainder of the year with a heel injury. Veteran midfielder Ørjan Berg, however, is hopeful of playing in the final two European games after a successful knee operation. Rosenborg clinched the 2004 Norwegian title with a 4-1 win against SFK Lyn last Saturday.
