Hansen leads new Rosenborg set-up

Rosenborg BK have appointed Per Joar Hansen as their new coach with Nils Arne Eggen also returning.

Strong team
Hansen was previously assistant to Ola By Rise, who left the club following their 13th consecutive Norwegian title at the end of last month. The 63-year-old Eggen, who led Rosenborg to the first eleven of those championships before retiring, will work as a consultant along with Bjørn Hansen, while Rune Skarsfjord will be assistant coach.

Tough start
The 39-year-old Per Joar Hansen, a former Rosenborg player, coached Swedish side GIF Sundsvall before joining Rosenborg prior to the 2004 season. His first match in charge will be the Royal League fixture against Djurgårdens IF on Thursday, before he guides Rosenborg through their final two UEFA Champions League group stage games.

Wins required
Rosenborg have only a slim chance of progress from Group E, as they sit bottom of the section with just one point from four outings. They are next in European action on 24 November at home against Panathinaikos FC before travelling to Arsenal FC on 7 December.

Sollied link
Prior to today's confirmation, it had been thought that Club Brugge KV coach Trond Sollied was top of Rosenborg's wanted list. However, Hansen has signed a one-year contract and Sollied could be set for a role with the club from the 2006 season. "We don't know if this is the case yet," said Rosenborg director Rune Bratseth. "We don't know anything about Trond Sollied's plans."
