Real Madrid CF midfield player Borja Fernández will be sidelined for at least a month after picking up a foot injury.

Scans conducted
The 23-year-old was hurt in the second half of the 2-1 Copa del Rey win against CD Tenerife on Wednesday. After tests and x-rays today, club medical staff revealed that Borja had suffered a sprain in his left foot. He has been advised to rest for up to five weeks, meaning he will miss next weekend's top-of-the-table meeting with FC Barcelona.

Positive news
Borja, who has yet to figure in this season's UEFA Champions League, will almost certainly not appear in the remainder of the group stage. Madrid welcome Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 23 November before finishing their Group B campaign at AS Roma on 8 December. There is better news, however, regarding Fernando Morientes, who should recover from an ankle problem to face Barça on Saturday week.
