Madrid face disciplinary proceedings

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Real Madrid CF for racist behaviour by some of their supporters.

Decision on 9 December
The European governing body announced the day after the sides' 1-1 draw that it had opened an investigation into incidents at the Santiago Bernabéu, which included racist chanting at the German club's black players. Some fans were also seen making Nazi salutes. The UEFA control and disciplinary body will announce its decision on the case on 9 December.

Fight against racism
Tuesday night's events came less than a week after FIFA launched an inquiry after England's black players were taunted during an international friendly with Spain in the same stadium on 17 November. The UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson underlined today that the fight against racism was a priority for UEFA. Speaking in Lisbon, he said: "In our opinion it is one of our priorities and this is what we are working on continuously."
