Juan deal lifts Leverkusen

Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Brazilian international defender Juan has signed an improved contract until 2008.

International success
The 25-year-old joined the Bundesliga side for €3.5m from CR Flamengo in 2002, and has emerged as a key player at the BayArena. Leverkusen managing director Wolfgang Holzhäuser said of the 2004 Copa América winner: "Juan has just signed a contract with better conditions which runs until 2008."

'Not for sale'
Holzhäuser also revealed that Leverkusen have begun negotiations with Bulgarian international striker Dimitar Berbatov about extending his current deal beyond 2007. "Italian clubs can take a look at the lads but they're not for sale," said Holzhäuser. "We want to continue playing in Europe."

Hoping to advance
The 2002 Champions League finalists are attempting to reach the knockout stages of this year's edition against Dynamo. A victory would guarantee Leverkusen a place in the last 16, although they would advance with a defeat if AS Roma beat Real Madrid CF in the Italian capital.
