Four more years
The defender’s previous deal with the German champions was due to expire in the summer, but the 21-year-old has decided to extend his stay by another four years. Schulz joined from TSV Bassum in 1995 and has progressed through Bremen’s youth system. This season he has made ten Bundesliga appearances and three in the UEFA Champions League.

'Bright future'
"Christian is a young player with a bright future. He is a local-born player and we are delighted that he has signed a new contract," said Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs. Coach Thomas Schaaf added: "Christian has proved himself both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League and he will continue to improve."

Ernst leaves
Meanwhile, FC Schalke 04 have confirmed the signing of Bremen midfield player Fabian Ernst for the 2005/06 season. The 25-year-old's contract at the Weserstadion was due to expire in the summer allowing Schalke to step in and offer the German international a five-year deal until 2010.
