Article body
The AS Monaco FC goalkeeper Flavio Roma has signed a two-year extension to his contract, committing himself to the club until June 2008.
Champions League final
The 30-year-old Italian custodian arrived at the Stade Louis II in July 2001 from Piacenza Calcio and soon established himself ahead of Tony Sylva and Stéphane Porato to prove a worthy heir to Fabien Barthez. Roma excelled in the UEFA Champions League last season, although he could do nothing to prevent FC Porto winning the final 3-0, and has been similarly impressive this term.
Two to go
Roma has been ever-present in 2004/05 and will hope to sustain his excellent form when Monaco tackle PSV Eindhoven in the first knockout round of the Champions League in late February and early March. Two players not in contention, however, are Jimmy Juan, 21, and 22-year-old Grégory Lacombe. Both are to be released by the club.
