Porto take €3m
The 20-year-old attacking midfield player has joined the Sao Paulo club in a €6m transfer, a year after moving to Porto from Fluminense FC for under half that amount. Porto's chairman, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, disclosed that Porto would receive 50 per cent of the fee, with the remainder to be shared among the pool of agents who manage the player's affairs.
In his 12 months in Portugal Carlos Alberto collected winner's medals in the Champions League - his spectacular volley provided the first of Porto's three goals against AS Monaco FC in Gelsenkirchen - the Portuguese Superliga and the European/South American Cup, where he was an unused substitute against CD Once Caldas in Tokyo.
Carlos Alberto's departure to Corinthians comes less than 24 hours after the news of PFC CSKA Moskva striker Vágner Love's move to the same club. He may be followed out of Porto by another Brazilian striker, Derlei, who has been linked with a transfer to FC Dinamo Moskva.
Porto coach Víctor Fernández said of Carlos Alberto: "He is a good player with potential and is still growing. His performances this season were not better because he was troubled by tendinitis in the kneecap, which ruled him out more than a month and prevented him from playing more often."
Carlos Alberto made 22 league appearances for Porto in total, scoring once. In this season's Champions League he played four times but leaves the club having failed to add to his priceless effort in last May's final, his only goal in the competition.
