Abidal sidelined again

Defender Eric Abidal is a doubt for Olympique Lyonnais' trip to face Werder Bremen after injuring his thigh.
Olympique Lyonnais defender Eric Abidal may struggle to regain full fitness in time for his side's forthcoming UEFA Champions League tie against Werder Bremen after suffering a thigh injury at the weekend.

Quadricep torn
The French international full-back, who has already been sidelined with buttock and knee injuries this season, tore a quadricep muscle during Lyon's 2-0 Ligue 1 victory against FC Metz at the weekend and faces an estimated 20-day lay-off. That would give the 25-year-old little more than a week to regain match fitness ahead of the trip to face the German champions on 23 February.

Reunion blocked
Abidal, who won his only international cap in August last year, shortly after arriving at the Stade Gerland for €5m from LOSC Lille Métropole, will miss this weekend's top-of-the-table encounter against his old club, as well as the friendly between France and Sweden on 9 February.
