Makaay misery for Bayern

FC Bayern München's Dutch striker Roy Makaay will miss his side's away game against Arsenal FC through injury.

Dutch striker Roy Makaay will miss FC Bayern München’s trip to Arsenal FC after picking up a thigh injury.

Torn muscle fibre
Makaay limped off after 88 minutes of Bayern’s 1-0 win over SV Werder Bremen on Saturday and team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt immediately diagnosed a torn muscle fibre.

Two week break
The Dutch international will be sidelined for two weeks and will therefore miss the return leg of the UEFA Champions League tie at Arsenal FC on Wednesday. Furthermore the striker will be out of Bayern’s vital Bundesliga trip to FC Schalke 04 next Sunday.

“Huge blow”
“We will have the chance to play on the counterattack in the next two games and Roy would have been the ideal player for such tactics. His absence is a huge blow,” midfielder Michael Ballack told the club’s official homepage.
