AC Milan defender Jaap Stam has signed a one-year contract extension, committing himself to the Italian champions until June 2007.

Injury problems
The 32-year-old Dutchman arrived at the San Siro last summer from S.S. Lazio but has played only nine times in Serie A and three times in the UEFA Champions League due to a series of injuries. Stam is now fully fit and played for the entire 90 minutes yesterday when Milan defeated his former side Manchester United FC to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
