English flavour to final four

The UEFA Champions League will have an English finalist for the first time in six years after Liverpool FC's success.

An English side will feature in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in six years after Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC won their last-eight encounters to set up an all-Premiership semi-final.

Six-times winners
The other semi pits PSV Eindhoven, making their first last-four appearance since lifting the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1988, in a likely tie against six-times winners AC Milan, who held a 3-0 aggregate advantage against FC Internazionale Milano in their quarter-final before the second leg was abandoned in the 73rd minute. The result of the tie is still pending, subject to a UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body hearing on Friday.

Penalties required
PSV needed penalties to defeat Olympique Lyonnais after both legs finished 1-1, Robert holding his nerve to convert the decisive kick and send the Dutch club through in the first two-legged Champions League tie ever to be settled from the spot. Liverpool also showed their steel, holding Juventus FC to a 0-0 draw in Turin and progressing by virtue of their 2-1 first-leg triumph at Anfield.

Istanbul final
The Reds will face Chelsea over two legs beginning at Stamford Bridge on 27 April, after the Londoners overcame FC Bayern München 6-5 on aggregate. José Mourinho's side will travel to Anfield for the second leg on 3 May, the night before PSV play their return match against Italian opposition in Eindhoven. The teams meet first on 26 April at the San Siro. The victorious semi-finalists will lock horns at Istanbul's Atatürk Olympic Stadium on 25 May.
